Perfection

Talk about a loaded word: perfection. What fun would perfect be?! There are no challenges if one is perfect and, believe me, I’ve thought of that word since I first learned it. When it was that I learned it escapes me though. “When I was little”, will have to suffice. “When I was little. That was a hell of a long time ago and the time between then and now taught me that I knew nothing back in those days . . . and nights. Yet, those were, for the most part, good times.

Of course those were good times! I was ignorant of the world and all the world meant was a bunch of unseen people doing weird things all over this imaginary globe that spun on its axis in my living room. If I still had that globe most of the names on it have been changed. Countries in Africa all have different names as though the old names weren’t good enough. America was forty-eight states contingent to the same package of borders. Then, along comes Alaska and Hawaii, the flags had to be changed and going on vacation had to be better thought out, if you were going to a new state. America lost something when you could no longer comfortably drive from one state to another. It became a splayed package of states.

Then again, nobodies perfect now are they? It is proved all the time when you have something that works and then you change it. Why? becomes a moot point because the answer is a foregone conclusion: Because I could. How’d that work out for you?
